Hey folks! I’m JoEllen, a writer with over a decade of experience creating compelling content! In 2012 I became the voice of the award-winning website The Redhead Bedhead and I am now the author of two books: The Monster Under the Bed: Sex, Depression, and the Conversations We Aren’t Having (2020, Thorntree Press), and In It Together: Navigating Depression with Partners, Friends, and Family (2023, Thornapple Press).
Additionally I have worked as a content creator, copywriter, ghostwriter, editor, social media manager, and all-around maker of words for multiple companies and as a mentor and writing coach for a number of aspiring writers. Basically, words are my thing. Whether I’m making them myself or helping other people make them, I love to craft captivating text!

What’s up with all the sex talk?
My background is in writing about sex. That is how I got my start as a professional writer, it accounts for a lot of the work I have done, and is even the basis of my first book.
Same question but with mental health?
My writing about sex eventually evolved to include writing about mental health. I have spent most of my career talking about topics many people find overwhelming.
So can you write about “normal” stuff?
Of course! I have written about everything from sex toys to sitcoms, from self esteem to storage solutions. My extensive experience with uncomfortable topics only serves to make me a even more versatile wordsmith.
What are your rates? Are there discounts?
Rates vary by project. Discounts are available for multiple projects as well as for referrals.
How quickly can you finish my project?
This depends on a number of factors. Please let me know about your specific time needs when when discuss your project.
Do you take in-person meetings?
I do most meetings virtually, however if it is mutually convenient, in-person meetings in parts of New Jersey, New York, or Eastern Pennsylvania may be possible.
